Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter
August 1st – Back to School

Hello and welcome to Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter, and this will be a monthly newsletter.

If there are blue lines under sentences, it’s a link.

I’m Amanda D. Petty. I was born in 1982, drowned at 22 months old and live in a power wheelchair, and I’ve got Spastic Cerebral Palsy on my left side of my body, and I’ve got speech impairment. In 2001, God gave me a very powerful gift of poetry. In January of 2012, I thought of writing poetry for other people. On July 10th, 2012, “Pretty Petty Poetry” has started!

My Thoughts: Have you ever wondered about what could be? Such as: this business; if I didn’t go through: emotional hell, physical pain, and how to trust on God, this business would not ever be created. I truly believe this with all fiber in my bone, there is a reason for EVERYTHING! For example: my accident, my everyday pains, and that stuff, I know I wouldn’t be so patient towards people. You see, my accident IS a sad thing. Christ has sent me, being handicapped, here for a purpose, and I think I’m here for “Pretty Petty Poetry”. Through my words, you feel Christ. Through this business, you know Him better. I’m hoping I’m helping a person. A few months ago, my friend told me that I give hope. I would have to disagree with that comment. Yes, I did create this business and everything; but I have a Boss too. My Boss is Heavenly Father. He tells me what to say and how to say it. He knows your needs, and I’m just His tool.

I really want to thank you, The Pretty Pets, for the support for “Pretty Petty’s Poem of the Week”. Your feedbacks let me know that I’m doing something right. Thank you.

On July 17th, there was a Malaysia airplane crash in Ukraine. It had 298 people on board, and they have no victims alive; Malaysia Flight #17 shot by Russian missile. They say that it was a mistake or an act of terrorist. Whatever it may be, an accident or an act, people are still hurting. Those 298 people have families and friends who loved them. For those who know them, I am extremely sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what pain you’re going through. I pray God is giving you solace in this horrific time.

My Spiritual Thoughts: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormon: Last month, we discussed before we came to Earth. This month, I want to talk about our lives on this planted.

I used to go to church every Sunday, attended to my classes. Now, I tried to attend Sacrament Meeting whenever I have a good day. The reason is my leg. I live in a wonderful Ward who brings the Bread and the Water to me. Yes, I do miss the Teaches and my friends. But, I do take the Sacrament. Twice a day, I read the Scriptures, and that succor me.

In this story, my leg is the challenge. Yes, it is painful to go through, but I know I’m building Faith in God. We’re here to build our Faith in Him, so when we meet Him again, we will know Him. We are here to receive Blessings to our unanswered prayers. For example: my friend got into a motorcycle accident in 2011. Now, he has brain damage and other needs. A year after his accident, I met him. Now remember, I’ve been handicapped since I was 2 years old. I’ve been succoring my friend, giving him courage, understanding, and just being there for him. Did he pray for my aide? Probably not, but Heavenly Father knew that he needed me.
We’re here to receive a physical body, and build our Faith. When we do have challenges, our Faith in Him will see us through.

If you’re a Spiritual person of any religion, I would love to put your thoughts in the newsletter. Don’t be afraid, I won’t be scornful. Just e-mail me at: prettypetty2010@gmail.com, and put in the “subject bar”: “My Spiritual thought for the Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter”. I would like to have them before the 1st of the month or sooner. I won’t put your name. But, I will put your religion.

The News: I looked up some “Sonnets Styles” for my homework assignment. I find ten new sonnet styles. They are: “Urdu”, “Modern (Word) Sonnet”, “The Indefinables”, “Fusion Sonnet”, “Divine Sonnet”, “Orpheus Sonnet”, “Sicilian octave”, “Heroic Crown Sonnet”, “Sonnet Sequence”, and “Sonnet Cycle”. I’ve read the “Heroic Crown Sonnet”, “Sonnet Sequence”, and “Sonnet Cycle” are groups of sonnets. I did the “Heroic Crown Sonnet” already, and it’s somewhat hard. The “Fusion Sonnet” is two styles in one: “Free Verse” and “Sonnet”. The “Divine Sonnet” has three variations.

I WILL put these on my site as soon as I learn how to write them. Make sure to go to my site for these sonnets in September.

For now on, I will post, everything that you see here, that containing the poetry reading: date, place, and “about the reading” will be on my site. If you check it without the monthly newsletters, it will be there. It’s under “Poetry Reading”.

Pretty Petty’s Poem for Missionaries: I will do an issue for the Missionaries of all religions every third week of a Wednesday. It will start on September 19th.
If you know a Missionary, tell them about this part and give them my e-mail address. I just need their Missionary’s e-mail addresses. The issue will be called: “Pretty Petty’s Poem for Missionaries”.
Families, friends, and fans of my poetry, please tell a missionary. I don’t care what religion you are, just get the word out.
If you want to be a part of this issue, let me know. Just remember, I’ll be focusing on The Missionaries.
This will be a huge change in my career. Yes, everything WILL BE the same. Heavenly Father wants me to do this. To be honest, doing this issue will be a true honor.

On the 28th of June, my crown came out, and my dentist fixed it. A week later, it came out while I was eating. On July 29th, I found my tooth! I was so worry that I might have to go into surgery. Now, NO SURGERY! I need to get with my dentist to get a plan.

Bad turns into Good: On July 3rd, my power wheelchair broke. The reason is my right motor; it’s shot. So, my driving license is revoke by my chair’s motor. A power wheelchair last for five years. I had this one for four years now.
On July 25th, Phil, from “National Seating and Mobility”, came to check me out for a new chair. He asked me questions about what I need, the color, etc. It’s an 80% chance that I will get one, depending on my insurance. He said that I MIGHT have it in thirty days. Meanwhile the paperwork is going on, the team at “National Seating and Mobility” has loaned me a chair. There are three stages to get a power wheelchair. Phil is the first step of three. The other steps are: Mona, the physical therapist, and then the insurance. So, I’m at step one. I’m thinking in two weeks, Mona will see me. Mona is to check my range-of-motion. Here’s hoping I’ll get my new chair soon.

Great News: On June 25th, I got an accessible van. It's a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The floor is lower about 10 inches. The color is black crystal. The ride is a bit rough, especially over bumps. When you open the door, with the key, the ramp folds down. With the other van, someone had to lift me to put me in the seat, without my chair, and that isn't good for my back. With this one, I just have to drive in. It is very nice. It looks like someone rich owns it. In a way, I am rich; rich in Heavenly Father's Blessings.

Entering Poetry Contest: On July 19th, my friend, Christa saw an ad, and she dropped it off to me. The ad is a poetry contest. Guess what I’m going to do? Yep, I will enter. The contest ends in September. The winner gets $25,000 in prizes. Wish me luck. Thank you, Christa. Who knows, this might change my career. I know the chances are very low, but I’m being positive.

More Great News: On July 23rd, I got a letter from my insurance about the “Tobii”, and they approved it. If you are a new comer, a “Tobii” is a communication device that will help me speak. I can use it as a laptop; it has a touch-screen. I describe it as a tablet. This will be with me 24/7. I don’t know when I’ll have it.
There is a doctor, who deals with CP people, and Phil mentioned his name a few times before; but I forgot. While he was checking me, I asked him, and he told me. Thank you, Phil for everything.
I’m praying this is my answer to my leg problem. Please, pray for a miracle to my leg problem because I can’t live like this anymore. Yes, it’s acting up, and it’s painful.

A Very Special Thank You: I’m beyond grateful to have a great fan-base. I never realize how this business touches so many lives. I don’t check the status on my site. But on July 18th, I did, and I was beyond speechless. You, the Pretty Pets, surprised me because I’m international: Kenya, China, Germany, Turkey, Malaysia, South Korea, England, France, Johannesburg, Nigeria, and Puerto Rico.
As I type this, I’m tearing up. Saying “thank you” is not enough to the gratitude I have; but, that’s all I know. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for giving me requests. Thank you for making my foolish idea into this life-changing business. Thank you for making my dreams come true. Thank you for believing in me and trusting me with your feelings.
Two years ago, I had no idea why Heavenly Father wants ME, a handicapped lady, who’s slow, to be a businesswoman. Now, I know. This business is a service to Him, and I love serving Christ.
So, thank you, the Pretty Pets, young and old, for everything. I would not be like this without you. Thank you.

Poetry Reading: It will be on Friday, October 10th, at 7:00 pm, Mountain Standard Time in Liberty, Utah, USA.
Remember: these readings are for everyone. If you want to come, come. The readings are in the LDS church in Liberty. EVERYONE AND ANYONE IS WELCOME! I just have one request. If you come, tell me because I’ve got a list to know how many copies of my poems to make.
About the Readings: The reading is about an hour long because of my Spastic in my CP. Within that hour, you will feel God’s Spirit. If you want to give a comment, you can. Before and after, we say a prayer. Then, we have refreshments. It’s a truly spiritual experience that you won’t have again. You can bring your friends. Also, you can bring a poem or just listen.

Your Thoughts: I truly want your thoughts on this poem:

I Need You, Heavenly Father
By-Amanda D. Petty

“Give me strength, Father.”
I pray while rolling tears come.

Unbearable pains.
Hurt.

“Father! Where are you?”
I said while sobbing on my pillow.

Undeniable aches.
Damage.

“I need you, Heavenly Father.”
I whispered in my tears.

Unbearable, undeniable
Pains.

“Give me strength.”

Please, e-mail me at prettypetty2010@gmail.com with YOUR thoughts on this poem.

Poem of the Month: I write two or three poems a day, and I want to share my best one of the month. I’m getting a very strong impression that I should read the poem. I may pause in the middle of the poem. I will do my best. Some words are hard to understand. If you have “Window Media Player”, you will hear my voice. The audio will be attached.

This one is a new poem. I was thinking of a friend. This friend has a huge impact on my life. This is a “Parallelism” poem. I hope you will notice the feel. Enjoy.

The Way
By-Amanda D. Petty

Amazement, the way, you slipped under my blood cells to morph my life.
Unreal, the way, you marched into my world to change my mind.

Astonishment, the way, you transformed my soul to be free.
Unbelievable, the way, you climb into my brain to solace it.

Succoring me, you not here, still aiding me.
Heart says, “Thanks.” Mind says, “You, my blessing.”
Here in my soul, librating, emancipating.
No words, my true gratitude.

Amazement, the way, you still touched me to modify my existence.
Unreal, the way, you, in my work to alter it, I, forever not the same.

Astonishment, the way, you, in my spirit to be one with God.
Unbelievable, the way, you move me into an endless heaven.

Lyrics of the Month: Poetry has a plethora of styles, and my ultimate favorite is lyrics.
What would I give if I could be out of these waters?” This line, of the song, really says a lot to me. I live in different kind of waters. Most people, who are in my situation, know exactly what I mean. For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m going to tell you.
Trays, power wheelchairs, surgeries, hospital beds, computers, impaired speech, involuntary movements, accessible vans, hand and legs braces, drooling, poor eyesight, G-tube, a tracheotomy, and everyday pains. These are the waters that I’m living in. (The G-tube was the way I got my food. The tracheotomy was the way I used to breathe.) On some days, the waves are a 100 story tall tower, and on others, it feels like a tiny stream.
But, I can talk, see, dance, hear, and sing. I can stay in the sun, even though I will get fried. I have true and real friends go for walks, but I drive. I can give little kids rides. I have my own business: writing poetry and dealing with people’s crazy and serious requests.
These waters allow me to be patient. I actually can hear and feel the unspoken words. Hearing the unsaid words is a gift, and I’m beyond grateful for that. With this career, reading and truly understand what you are trying to say, is a blessing.

Want Help: If you want to help with “Pretty Petty Poetry”, you can! I am looking for some volunteers to help with the desktop wallpapers and getting me clients. I can’t do everything by myself anymore, too stressful.

For New Comers: This is MY idea to do this business. Everything you see is me alone with the help from God. This is a part of “Pretty Petty Poetry”. I’ve been studying English with the help from a professor, Nancy Lowe, from Weber State University, Utah, USA since October of 2011. For more information: www.prettypettypoetry.blogspot.com; everything is there.
