For this weekly poem, I want to give honor to my physical therapist, Doug Shepherd. But, I call him, “The Miracle Worker”, and I think of him as an angel. In this poem, you will see how hard, hard is an understatement, bad I want to walk.

Doug, this IS for you.

Step by Step

By-Amanda D. Petty

Step by step, a dream closed.

Dreaming of this,

Feeling the floor under my weak legs.

Giving thanks to Heavenly Father

For this angel, who I call my PT.

Step by step, I walked.

Lucky, a miracle, maybe.

A true blessing, yes.

Step by step, wheelchair, no more.

A minute of true freedom,

Freedom of my handicapped.

Moving legs, zealous spirit,

Overcome with tears.

Step by step, I walked.
