Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter
June
1st, – Happy Father’s Day and Congratulation to the
Grads
Hello and welcome to Pretty Petty Poetry
Newsletter, and this will be a monthly newsletter.
If there are blue
lines under sentences, it’s a link.
I’m Amanda D. Petty. I was born in 1982,
drowned at 22 months old and live in a power wheelchair, and I’ve got Spastic
Cerebral Palsy on my left side of my body, and I’ve got speech impairment. In
2001, God gave me a very powerful gift of poetry. In January of 2012, I thought
of writing poetry for other people. On July 10th, 2012, “Pretty
Petty Poetry” has started!
My Thoughts: Father’s Day is coming up, and I feel like I need to
mention this. My dad and I are close. I love him more than anyone because he
named me. I truly think, when I had my accident, his world broke. Lucky for
him, I’m still living. He has a “Jazzy” wheelchair, and we race in the stores.
I am blessed to call him my dad. Happy Father’s Day to all men.
In May, my eleven-year-old niece, Auri sent
me a sweet video, telling me how much she loves her aunt. That little video,
that she made, really touched my heartstrings. I know she’s reading this. Auri,
I am blessed to be your aunt, and I truly do anything for you. You are a
beautiful girl, and turning into a lovely young woman. When I had a bad day,
your letters cheered me up; now, your e-mails do. I love you. Thank you for
being my niece.
In Nigeria, a dozen or more of young women
were kidnapped because they were getting an education. I’ve got a friend that
lives in Nigeria, and I’m praying that isn’t his daughter, niece, or friend.
Mr. Michael, I am hoping and praying my fans and friends are keeping those
girls in their prayers. #BringOurGirlsBack.
May God watch over them.
My Spiritual Thoughts: The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormon: A CP man played a
baseball game with his families and friends. He walked, with his walker, to the
base. His fourteen-year-old niece pitched the ball to him, and he got a strike.
He swung his bat, another time, another strike. His niece throws a slow ball,
and he hit it. The ball went a foot away from the home base. His friends were
on the bases, and they kept on dropping the ball; so their friend could ran
home. While he was running, everyone cheered for him. The man yelled, while he
stepped on home base, with tears, “I hit a homerun!” His whole family and
friends came to him, and they cheered, hugged, and kissed him.
Like the niece, Christ sees how hard we
work, and He gives us a slow ball. Yes, we do get strikes, but if we don’t try
to hit a homerun, we can’t hit the ball. Our families and friends are there to
help us to hit a homerun. Christ wants us to be the best. He gives us
opportunities to serve others. For example: the CP man’s friends. They could
easily get him out. But, they didn’t. They want to see their friend happy.
Christ wants that for us.
If you’re a
Spiritual person of any religion, I would love to put your thoughts in the
newsletter. Don’t be afraid, I won’t be scornful. Just e-mail me at: prettypetty2010@gmail.com,
and put in the “subject bar”: “My Spiritual thought for the Pretty Petty Poetry
Newsletter”. I would like to have them before the 1st of the month
or sooner. I won’t put your name. But, I will put your religion.
The News: Nancy taught me: 3 more types of Sonnets. In April, the
Sonnets that I learned are: “Shakespeare” and “Milton”. In May, I learned:
“Spenserian”, “Terza rima”, and “Petrarchan”. Once I know all the twenty
Sonnets, I will put them on my site.
I’m learning the types of Ballads. Two of
them, that I’m learning, are: “Ballata” and “The Commoner’s Ballad”.
I’m also learning a really funny poem,
called: “Person’s Name”.
Nancy has me fixing the mistakes on other
poems and papers.
If you have a Twitter account, follow me: www.twitter.com/prettypettypoet.
If you have MySpace, follow me: www.myspace.com/prettypettypoet.
Recently, I wrote some lyrics to my song.
Before you get excited, it isn’t that great. It’s on my site. It has a pop feel
to it. It is under “The Styles and The Rules”. Enjoy my pop song.
There are two new editions to the
newsletters. The first one is called: “Your Thoughts”. I truly want EVERYONE
to seriously think about this. You will know what I mean, when you see this.
Tell me, what this poem says TO YOU. The second is called: “Very Unique
BUT Real Holidays”. These holidays are fun, amusing, and some of them are
weird. On the other hand, some of them are very serious.
Notice: I WILL NOT write on June 25th
through June 28th because I will be out of town. Also, I will be out
of state July 3rd through July 7th. I’ve got fun family
things to go to. If you want a 4th of July poem, tell me between
June 28th through July 3rd, and I will write for you.
There will not be a “Pretty Petty’s Poem of the Week” on June 27th
and July 4th.
Because of my trips, I will send my July’s
monthly newsletter on June 20th. I told myself; if I’m going to do
this business and if I won’t be home, I will let you know ahead of time.
On May 27th, I got my new molded
seat, and it is very nice. It felt weird at first because I need to get use it
to. But, I loved it. I’m hoping it will help with my leg cramps.
In September, I will get my “Tobii”, and I CANNOT
wait. If you are a new comer, A Tobii is a 15-inched tablet, and it’s a
communication device. It will be with me 24/7. It also can be use as a computer
too.
In the July, August, and September
newsletters, I’m going to talk about three topics that are so dear to me. These
subjects will be under “My Spiritual Thoughts”. I know and realize some of you
will not understand it, and I will try to make it easy for you. Please, pray
for me because these subjects are paramount to me.
Poetry Reading: The reading went
very good. We had 9 people: 3 gentlemen and 6 ladies. On “Prepare for Winter”,
really surprised me and kind of left me speechless, on what my friend said. She
saw my trials and challenges, and I did not see that in this poem. It made me
think twice about that poem. I, personally, read a Mother’s Day poem to my mom.
Remember, ANYONE AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME
TO COME! I just need to know ahead of time. I make copies of my poems so
you can read along.
I truly want to thank, for those who came
to the readings. It means more than you could know. Thank you.
Also, thanks to Karen Wright for bringing
the refreshments.
I will have the next reading in September
some time. The date is unknown. Stay tune for the date.
I am not making this up. At the May’s
reading, it took me two days to relax. I took my meds, but I was still in pain.
This, this is because of my Spastic Cerebral Palsy. I tried to help it, but I
cannot.
Before I had a discussion about this issue
with my parents and Nancy Lowe, I wanted to quit the readings because my body
couldn’t handle them. With SCP, I get very tight if anything change or if I’m
excited. It gets worse at the readings; speaking in a group is beyond hard for
me. I did talk this over with my parents and Nancy. They suggested to, do them
still, but I can’t read my own poems. I will have my “Tobii”, and I will use
that as my voice.
Your Thoughts: I truly want your
thoughts on this poem:
Prepare For
Winter
By-Amanda
D. Petty
Summertime,
but I’m in a heavy coat.
In
shorts, but still shivering.
Here
comes the snow.
Hundred
degrees outside, but I’m cold.
Icy
soul, a frozen heart.
Mr.
Frost, get out.
He
wouldn’t.
Blowing a blizzard.
Dark
clouds coming.
A
flake falls, a tear track shows.
Snowing,
I’m a mess.
A
sunray feels like a snowball coming.
Why
did you hurt me?
Praying
for the real heat from God.
Asking Him to dry the snow.
Searching
for hope in a rose. No luck.
Crying,
stop-sign red eyes.
Bawling,
Rudolph like nose.
Feeling
lonely.
No
one.
Why
can’t I prepare for winter?
Poem
of the Month:
I
write two or three poems a day, and I want to share my best one of the month.
I’m getting a very strong impression that I should read the poem. I may pause
in the middle of the poem. I will do my best. Some words are hard to
understand. If you have “Window Media Player”, you will hear my voice. The
audio will be attached.
This is very
hilarious and very disgusting poem. This is a few years old. This will make you
laugh. Don’t think too hard; it just a fun poem. Enjoy. Note: I might laugh
during this poem.
King Poop-poop and
Queen Pee-pee
By-Amanda
D. Petty
There was a king.
King Poop-poop was
his name.
He loves to go poop
all day long.
One day, he was
constipated.
He took a walk
around his kingdom of toilet.
He saw a woman,
called, Queen Pee-pee.
They got married.
They farted and
they had a boy.
His name was Prince
Run-run.
Lyrics
of the Month:
Poetry has a plethora of styles, and my ultimate favorite is lyrics.
I know I talk about
this all the time, and I have no idea why Heavenly Father wants me to discuss
my handicapped. Maybe, I’m the right person to put things; I really don’t know.
Note: I am always afraid to talk about my disability.
“Be Still, My Soul” is
my paramount hymn to me because I feel the lyrics are talking to me on a whole
different, deeper level.
Everyone knows what
happen to me. But, I’m going to put this, a different way. Imagine you are me:
you cannot walk at all, have speech impairment, and pain is your daily friend.
When you were young and in your teens, kids and adults stare at you, make fun
of you, name calling, pointed fingers, and give you the bird. As an adult, men
see an “opportunity”. Women walk pass you. There’s no relief at all. You TRIED
to be hopeful, happy, and put on a smile for a friend. This is what I’m living
in. That’s just the surface. I won’t tell you every little emotion because it’s
disappointing.
On a positive note,
I have very good friends, good is an understatement. I truly hope they won’t
care if I give a shot out to them. Karen and Danny let me come over, to their
house, to hang out. Betty Bennett and I talked. Travis Daley is teaching me to
be patient when I don’t want to be and how life can change with a blink of an
eye. Ojo Michaels taught me anything can happen. Doug Shepherd taught me if you
can do it, let us see it. Rick Cruse is teaching me everything to push on.
Nancy Lowe, I cannot express my feelings how she morphed me. Sharon Brune was
my aide in school and she became one of my close friends. I’m sure I’m leaving
tons of people out. For those who know me, thank you for putting up with my
crazy personality.
“Be Still, My Soul” and
listen to Him. He KNOWS your needs. He will solace your heart. My
story is truly a miracle to hear or read about. This song comforts my soul, and
I know He will be there for you and me.
Want help: If you want to help with “Pretty Petty
Poetry”, you can! I am looking for some volunteers to help with the desktop
wallpapers and getting me clients. I can’t do everything by myself anymore, too
stressful.
For New Comers: This is MY idea to do this business. Everything
you see is me alone with the help from God. This is a part of “Pretty Petty
Poetry”. I’ve been studying English with the help from a professor, Nancy Lowe,
from Weber State University, Utah, USA since October of 2011. For more
information: www.prettypettypoetry.blogspot.com; everything is there.
