Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter
May
1st, – Happy Mother’s Day, Happy Cinco de Mayo,
Hello and welcome to Pretty Petty Poetry
Newsletter, and this will be a monthly newsletter.
If there are blue
lines under sentences, it’s a link.
I’m Amanda D. Petty. I was born in 1982,
drowned at 22 months old and live in a power wheelchair, and I’ve got Spastic
Cerebral Palsy on my left side of my body, and I’ve got speech impairment. In
2001, God gave me a very powerful gift of poetry. In January of 2012, I thought
of writing poetry for other people. On July 10th, 2012, “Pretty
Petty Poetry” has started!
My Thoughts: I want to give my appreciation to those who
are my friends on Facebook. I posted on Facebook my progress on my walking. I’m
truly overwhelmed on the support that I have. Within a month, I took about 40 feet.
My Facebook friends “like” it, and I got very overwhelmed.
On Facebook, I belong to a disabled group
to support me, succor me. At first, I was scared. When I post my progress, they
actually know how I HARD I’m
working. They gave me very encouraging words. By the way, I need that.
To a non-handicapped person, WALKING has been my dream, literary a
dream. Now that I have a physical therapist (Doug), my dream is coming true. Yes,
it’s beyond difficult for me. Every time Doug comes, we say a prayer. I know,
without any doubts, praying to Him really help tons. We set two walking goals,
and that I cannot tell, yet. Sorry. :(
My Spiritual Thoughts: The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormon:
The test of life is
hard. But, we have God to strengthen us.
If you’re a
Spiritual person of any religion, I would love to put your thoughts in the
newsletter. Don’t be afraid, I won’t be scornful. Just e-mail me at: prettypetty2010@gmail.com,
and put in the “subject bar”: “My Spiritual thought for the Pretty Petty Poetry
Newsletter”. I would like to have them before the 1st of the month
or sooner. I won’t put your name. But, I will put your religion.
The News:
On April 22, 2015, my friends and I did the video. Thanks to Danny and Karen
Wright and Nancy Lowe for helping me.
A New Business Partner:
On April 7th, 2015, I talked to a friend Eric Brown, a deep and passionate
poet, being a partner of “Pretty Petty Poetry”, and he said, “Yes”. He’s
disabled; he is High Functioning Autistic.
This partner is for my early seeing God. Once
I’m with Him, Eric will take over. He knows the business and the styles; he
doesn’t know how to do them yet. So, I’ve been teaching him. I read some of his
poetry, and he’ll be good. Trust me; Eric Brown has the gift of words. When I’m
not able to write for some reason, he’ll take over.
I did pray about him, and I felt really
good. I promise, “Pretty Petty Poetry” will not change. Eric may improve the
site, and I gave him the ok. Welcome Eric Brown to “Pretty Petty Poetry”.
Now Pretty Pets, Eric is new to the
business. He doesn’t know everything yet. Don’t come to him with a poem yet.
He’s not ready. He thinks he is, but he’s not.
New
to the site:
Eric and I put some fun facts on the site. It’s called, “Fun Facts about the
Poets”. Also, I put Eric’s Cinquain poem.
Congratulations Eric! I’m very proud of
you.
Poetry Reading: It will be on
Friday, July 10th, at 7:00 pm (Mountain Standard Time). It will be held
at the LDS
Church in Eden, Utah, USA. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
Religion IS
NOT a requirement. Come and enjoy with us in a “poetic” night.
About the Readings: The reading is about an hour long
because of my Spastic in my CP. Within that hour, you will feel God’s Spirit. I
usually bring about five poems to the reading. Anyone can give their feedbacks.
Before and after, we say a prayer. Then, we have refreshments. It’s a truly
spiritual experience that you won’t have again. You can bring your friends.
Also, you can bring a poem or just listen.
A Special Surprise: If you
come, I will have a very special surprise for you. Warning, you need to bring
some tissues.
Your Thoughts: I truly want your
thoughts on this poem:
This is by my new
business partner, Eric Brown. I’ve been giving him odd topics to write about,
and I gave him, “Weeds”. This is what he came up with.
Weeds
By-Eric
Brown
Weeds are like Satan;
Growing in the soul.
No matter what we do,
We still have to fight
Him to stay with the
Light of Christ.
The light of Christ will calm
That dark place that
Satan tries to control.
I am strong enough to
Overcome the temptation of evil.
I will triumph over the darkness.
I am not like a weed
To be blown which way
By the winds of others
Decisions that affect me.
Oh that, I am the one to be me.
Excellent job,
Eric.
Poem of the Month: I
write two or three poems a day, and I want to share my best one of the month.
This month is all about Motherhood. So,
with that note, this is a “Ballad” about motherhood. To all mothers, new or old,
This one IS for you. Enjoy.
A Heavenly Mom
By-Amanda
D. Petty
“What makes a true mom?” I asked a
little girl.
“A mommy gives me candy and plays
dolls.” She replied with a smile.
“What makes a real mom?” I asked a
little boy.
“A mommy plays football.” He
retorted when we walked for a mile.
“What makes a true mom?” I asked a
teen girl.
“A mom does my hair for school and
has great style.”
“What makes a real mom?” I asked a
teen boy.
“A mom drives me to an event and
waits for me for a while.”
“What makes a true mom?” I asked a
woman.
“A mom has a good sense for life and
knows a good book title.”
“What makes a real mom?” I asked a
man.
“A mom will walk the extra step and
cry with you the Nile.”
“What makes a true mom?” I asked a
disabled lady.
“A true mom takes care of you and
knows how to use a mobile.”
“What makes a real mom?” I asked a
handicapped gentleman.
“A real mom knows the news and everything global.”
I asked myself, “Do I have a real
and true mom?”
“No,” I said to myself with a smile.
“I have a heavenly mom that has
wings.”
I hug an angel with style.
Lyrics of the Month: Poetry has a
plethora of styles, and my ultimate favorite is lyrics.
I’ve been through
hell, physical and emotional, many times. The devil and I are friends. Kidding
aside, I
HAVE been through hell.
The worst moment is very easy to tell. True, my accident was bad; my 12-hour
surgery is much worst. Yes, you read that right. My back was like a question
mark. I could have died if I didn’t have that surgery.
In
1999, right after I turn 17, days after, I had a steel rod put in my back. Because
of my SCP, I develop scoliosis in my back. Scoliosis is the curve of the back.
My back was 105 degrees and 65 degrees. It took 12 hours. Before the surgery, I
had everyone: my Ward, families, friends, praying for me and the doctor. I grew
3 inches; that’s how bad my back was. 6 l-o-n-g months, I was on pain killers
almost 6 hours. I wish I didn’t remember it, but I sure do. I remember whenever
I breathe, it hurts.
“How did you do
it?” You’re asking yourself. Looking back on it, I honestly don’t know how. I
know Christ was with me, giving me strength for one more minute, then hour, day,
month, year. I had a Priesthood Blessing every other night because I was
hurting so bad. My friends came to visit me. I know it is cheesy, but whenever anyone
prayed for me, I could actually feel their love.
Want help: If you want to help with “Pretty Petty
Poetry”, you can! I am looking for some volunteers to help with the desktop
wallpapers and getting me clients. I can’t do everything by myself anymore, too
stressful.
For New Comers: This is MY idea to do this business. Everything
you see is me alone with the help from God. This is a part of “Pretty Petty
Poetry”. I’ve been studying English with the help from a professor, Nancy Lowe,
from Weber State University, Utah, USA since October of 2011. For more
information: www.prettypettypoetry.blogspot.com; everything is there.
