April--Monthly

Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter
April 1st – Happy Easter, Happy Earth Day, Happy Passover

Hello and welcome to Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter, and this will be a monthly newsletter.

If there are blue lines under sentences, it’s a link.

I’m Amanda D. Petty. I was born in 1982, drowned at 22 months old and live in a power wheelchair, and I’ve got Spastic Cerebral Palsy on my left side of my body, and I’ve got speech impairment. In 2001, God gave me a very powerful gift of poetry. In January of 2012, I thought of writing poetry for other people. On July 10th, 2012, “Pretty Petty Poetry” has started!

My Thoughts: How can you tell if someone is an angel from the outside? I just finish a book; “One Tattered Angel”, where a baby, Charity, was born without a brain. This little girl had many disabilities. She died at 7 almost to 8 years old. This story was true. From the child’s point of view, I know firsthand how she feels when the pains come and go. But as a parent’s view, I had some of their emotions. This story changes everything on my outlook on Heavenly Father. This little girl couldn’t talk but she did, not in human words but she did talk. She wasn’t supposed to feel, but she could feel. All of my needs are NOTHING to hers. The Lord loves EVERYONE. True, we may feel He doesn’t love us. When I have my bad days, I had someone always there; it may be my family, my friends dropping by just to say hi, an email, or a prayer. He is there to meet my needs.
If you want to read this book, click on: http://www.amazon.com/One-tattered-angel-true-story/dp/0964996804. You will like this touchy story. Like I said, it changed me.

My Spiritual Thoughts: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormon:

I heard Him come… I’ll never let His light go… I’m a lame man, and I saw His eyes… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkaLwyv_rxo

If you’re a Spiritual person of any religion, I would love to put your thoughts in the newsletter. Don’t be afraid, I won’t be scornful. Just e-mail me at: prettypetty2010@gmail.com, and put in the “subject bar”: “My Spiritual thought for the Pretty Petty Poetry Newsletter”. I would like to have them before the 1st of the month or sooner. I won’t put your name. But, I will put your religion.

The News: Nancy taught me nothing new, really. I made some mistakes on my assignments. Besides that, nothing new.

A Video of Pretty Petty Poetry: For months, I’ve been talking about making a video on how “Pretty Petty Poetry” works. Well, I’m hoping it’ll be done in April. Look for it.

New to the Site: There’s a new style on my site. It’s called, “Picture Poem”.

Pretty Petty Poem’s for Kids: If you have kids from 8 to 21, this is for them. Like the Missionary issue, I’ll be doing a fun issue for kids. It’ll be called: “Pretty Petty Poem’s for Kids”. It will be just my silly, fun poems. With this version, I want to teach them about poetry. This version will be a monthly. The first issue will come out on April 15th.
Parents: I will not put in what my own children would read. I’ll be honest, and God will be with me.

Pretty Petty’s Poem for the Disabled: Most of you know that I’m handicapped or disabled. I’ve been seriously fighting with my emotions of doing this version. Two of my guy friends made me see that I need to do it, and I’ve prayed about this also. You will actually feel my true emotions about being disabled. These emotions are very raw and VERY real. It will be called: “Pretty Petty’s Poem for the Disabled”, and it will come out every fourth Wednesday; starting on April 29.

If you Christian or Jewish, I’ve got an Easter and a Passover poem already on my site.

New to the Monthly Newsletter: There is a session to the monthly newsletter. It’s called: “All Religions of Holidays”. I feel like I needed to put this in.

The Ads: For now on, I’ll be doing themes for the month. For example: April; it’s about Spiritual poems. You can give me any subject still; but now, you have a choice. I won’t give all away. But, you will understand.

Church Callings: In the LDS religion, we have Callings; it’s volunteer. To be honest, you do get paid, not in money but in Blessings.
In November of 2010, I got my first Calling. I’m the Church Newsletter Editor. The Leaders would email me their Messages, and I put it in the newsletter. If they don’t get their Message to me on time, I replace it with a picture or a Talk. On March 5th, 2015, my Bishop called me to another Calling to the Sacrament Greeter. I would welcome everyone to Sacrament. I could say, “No.” But, I’m not like that. I gave my concerns about my leg, and he understood. After talking to him about it, I said, “Yes!” It’s the end of the month, and I love being the Sacrament Greeter. The primary kids wave to me, and I just melt when I see them. The adults say, “Hi, how are you?”, and I love that so much. I smiled and answered them. Thank you, Heavenly Father for these two Callings. These two Callings are very simple and huge too. Yes, I have bad days. I know I am being blessed by doing these Callings. My Ward is counting on me to get this done and done very well.
I feel like I need to do this. To my Ward, what can I say? I have NEVER been so welcomed. Before I moved, I had a Ward in my birthplace. They were nice and all. This Ward goes beyond to SHOW their love. This Ward has a special feel. They do stuff with me, and they talk with me outside church. I’m beyond grateful and thankful for this amazing Ward. They actually care about me. Thank you everyone for giving me love, Christ’s Love. I love you, all.

My New Physical Therapist: On March 8th, I went to church for the first time in months. There, I saw Doug Shepherd, a friend and a Physical Therapist. I talked to him about getting a homebound Physical Therapist.
On March 11th, he called to see if I had insurance, and I do. The last week of February, I got a prescription for a Physical Therapist. Doug will come and checked to see what I actually needs. He knows my situation. I trust him in this. So, I got the ball rolling already by getting the prescription and getting Doug.
On March 23rd, Doug came and worked me. We did some exercise. He let me walked. Now, this is big for me. I actually walked across my room. He said he’ll be coming three times a week. He promised me that he will help me to walk. He also taught me stuff.
My friend came to visit the next day, and she noticed that I look stronger. It has been one day; I’m feeling a change already. Doug gave me some exercise to do myself. So, I’ve been doing those. Yes, it’s hard, painful, and I need this. Before I even thought of a Physical Therapist, I knew right off that it would be hard. Now that I have Doug, I would not complain because I do need this.
It looks like my insurance won’t pay. BUT, Doug said that he’ll be doing this for free. He wants to do this. I’ve been really blessed to live in this Ward. Every time Doug sees me, he always asks if I’m hurting from the workout. I think it’s sweet of him to be that concern of my body. I just smiled and I give him my answer. He knows that I won’t lie.

Doug, if you’re reading this, I just want to say thank you. After a day, my left hand has become easier to open. I’ve been trying, for 32 years, to open my hand and keep it open. You did it within an hour. For those who didn’t read my essay on “Being Handicapped”, my left hand is like a fish hook. This is because of my SCP. Doug, I don’t know what you did in that hour; but, you are a miracle worker. After a week, I can actually tell a change. I’ve been sitting straighter, my hand is open, and I am having less pain. This IS, walking, a dream come true. I’m blessed to have you in my Ward and in my life. You are a blessing to me. Thank you.

If you are new, for a year, I’ve been having major, I think major is an understatement, pain in my right leg, and I didn’t know why. Yes, I tried everything: heat, cold, massage, drinking and eating very odd stuff, and I even went to my back doctor. It’s not my back. It’s my sciatic nerve. We think because of my twisting of my body, something is pitching my sciatic nerve. This twisting is from my SCP, and that, I cannot do anything about it.

If you live in my Ward, I’ll have a very, very special surprise. I won’t tell you it. You will see it and be crying of joy. It won’t happen for a few months. Once I show you it, I’ll tell the rest of my Pretty Pets what I done.

THIS IS MY CHOICE TO HAVE DOUG COME!

Poetry Reading: It was very nice. We had eleven people: five women, four men, and two boys. It was extra special for me because my sister came. Thanks to everyone who came and gave their comments. Your feedback made me think. Thank you, Nancy Lowe for doing the refreshments.
The Next Reading: It will be on Friday, July 10th, at 7:00 pm (Mountain Standard time). It will be held at the LDS Church in Liberty, Utah, USA. EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Religion IS NOT a requirement. Come and enjoy with us in a “poetic” night.
About the Readings: The reading is about an hour long because of my Spastic in my CP. Within that hour, you will feel God’s Spirit. I usually bring about five poems to the reading. Anyone can give their feedbacks. Before and after, we say a prayer. Then, we have refreshments. It’s a truly spiritual experience that you won’t have again. You can bring your friends. Also, you can bring a poem or just listen.

Hang-Out with a Poet: This is my first fan-chat, and it went wonderful. I had 6 to 10 fans showing up. I shared four poems with him. The questions, that they asked, made me think. For an example: a fan asked, “How does poetry help you as a person?” It took me a few seconds to think. I honest want to thank everyone who was there. There WILL BE another fan-chat in the future. The date is unsure. I’m thinking of June or July. But, I am not 100% sure.

Your Thoughts: I truly want your thoughts on this poem:

I brought this to the reading. It has many levels. I think you really need read this few times over. Enjoy.

I Took My First Steps
By-Amanda D. Petty

I took my first steps to a life that I dream of.
I made a commitment to myself.
I know it will be hard work and it will take years.

I took my first steps for a better life style.
I’ve been thinking about this change.
I prayed for the strength.

I took my first steps for my own sake.
I will do a transformation.
When people see me, they will be surprised.

I took my first steps.

Please, e-mail me at prettypetty2010@gmail.com with YOUR thoughts on this poem.

Poem of the Month: I write two or three poems a day, and I want to share my best one of the month.

On March 12th, I wrote a few words in German in a poem. It’s called, “Always”. Enjoy. My brother-in-law gave me a good suggest to put the translated to words beside the German words, and I did. Thank you, James.

Always
By-Amanda D. Petty

Meine Liebe, oh My Love, do you realize how much you mean to me? If you don’t truly understand, then, you’re foolish.

Before our parents made us, we were one. True, this is bold; it’s true. Even since I saw those spirit-taken eyes, I knew. I knew that you were it, the one. I knew you’ve taken everything and turn it into beyond all. You took my deaf ears, and you planted an instrumental-less melody. You took my blind eyes and made me see only you. You took my lame body and made me walk in God’s Kingdom. You took my weary lips and made me repeat your name. You took my heart and made me feel. You took over my life, and I am not the same.

Ich liebe Dich. Oh, I love you. Yes, I do beyond your knowledge. But, these three words are not even close how much I love you. No matter how I say it, it isn’t nearly enough to my emotions. Meine Schatz, my Sweetie, how can I truly express these strong feelings on paper, when the words won’t come? You don’t mean the world; you are my world. You don’t mean life; you are my life. There’s tons more but I cannot find the right words; expect for:

Ich liebe Dich, always.

Lyrics of the Month: Poetry has a plethora of styles, and my ultimate favorite is lyrics.

As I do this business, my life is changing. Before 2006, I was beyond afraid of showing my poetry to anyone. When anyone mentioned that I wrote, I wanted to hide. “What made me change?” You asked. I guess, fear itself. In those 5 years, 2001 to 2006, I wrote like crazy. I remember writing 2 poems at once. I didn’t know or understand why these simple, complex, words were coming. I try to ignore them, but I seriously couldn’t. Then one day, I knew I had a gift or a talent, and I was hiding it from the world. Why was I doing that? I wondered that too. 9 years later, I still fear but not as much.
What does this story remind you of? A Disney movie, “Frozen”; instead of the power of snow, I have the power of words. I’m sure that you heard of “Let It Go”. But, this song has a double meaning to me. I just let my fears go. I just let my poetry go, and now I cannot be more happier.
Do I still fear? To be totally honest, yes I do. But, I have this scripture on my wall: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10). When I first thought of “Pretty Petty Poetry”, I was scared, very unsure of what I was actually doing. I kept on feeling God’s giving me strength and divine help. I know without Him, I could not do this business.
That fear of being worthless, useless will ALWAYS stay with me. I don’t, won’t, and can’t listen to that anymore. Do you know why? You, my Pretty Pets! I have the courage to face my fears. From the bottom of my blood cells, thank you for this dream-like life.

Want help: If you want to help with “Pretty Petty Poetry”, you can! I am looking for some volunteers to help with the desktop wallpapers and getting me clients. I can’t do everything by myself anymore, too stressful.

For New Comers: This is MY idea to do this business. Everything you see is me alone with the help from God. This is a part of “Pretty Petty Poetry”. I’ve been studying English with the help from a professor, Nancy Lowe, from Weber State University, Utah, USA since October of 2011.
