Pretty Petty’s Poem of the Week
Welcome to Pretty Petty Poetry Weekly. Every week, a different poet will write a poem. Enjoy.
I AM
My worth is unknown,
Only my racial violence is shown,
I am wise,
But my welcoming intellectual heart became demise.
I am wealthy with diamonds and gold,
the burglars left me broke when they robbed me of my land,
I am pure,
But their engineered sickness lured me to their cure.
I am the healer,
Though you call my gift a curse
And enjoy to be a scientific death spear.
I am a scholar,
Who looked to the steadiness of hills to practice patience,
and the flow of rivers to learn rhythms,
but you schooled my mind
by academically condemning the pulsating roots of my heart.
I am history,
As you tell your story by twisting my glory,
I am this land,
Your iron claws may dig minerals to feed your rand,
But my wealth is sealed in vegetative abundance.
I am genesis,
unwritten by your gospels,
My ritual altar discards your religious spells.
Yes I am black,
You labeled me long before Johnny started to walk,
but I am an African,
for the lack of a better word I accept black,
but only in context,
Because being me is beyond labeling.
Being me means the divine plan is genius and glorious,
let poetry then describe my heart,
as my lips define my mind,
I AM BLACK...

More Than Poetry: We take “Pretty Petty Poetry” very, very seriously. Some people think poetry is very “old fashioned”, boring, and not that interesting. We can understand. To us, poetry is the true heart of a person. Amanda describes it as: lyrics without any music.
